New Witheven offers supported holidays for people with learning disabilities We are based in North Cornwall, between the seaside town of Bude and the ancient capital of Cornwall , Launceston. Camelford is roughly 10 miles away with Bodmin moor and Boscastle within 20 minutes drive. Launceston, Camelford and Bude are within easy reach for shopping There are many sites to see, fishing villages such as Padstow and Port Issac. Further south is Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium. The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are within easy reach. Truro, Plymouth, Exeter and Barnstaple are within one hours drive along with their many attractions.
Bude Breakwater leads onto the beaches.
We are open all year round and have many activities for each person to take part in. There is a wide selection of places to visit and things to do, such as:- Bodmin Steam Railway, 10 Pin Bowling, Visiting an Otter Park, Barnstaple Market , Swimming, BBQ's, Cinema Visits and Pub Lunches The winter activities would include – exploring various parts of Cornwall , Craft, Cookery and Photography. We also have a day care facility which includes Craft, Cookery, Animal Care and Gardening. At the end of your stay you will have a copy of the holiday diary which contains photographs and a daily account of the week's activities and visits.
New Witheven is a large bungalow with single bedrooms and suitable for people with mobility problems There is a large dining area and a comfortable sitting room which has televisions, music centres, board games and books. We have a large garden and patio areas, also a twelve acre field with paths for walks for people to enjoy the tranquil countryside.
The bedrooms are comfortable and airy, there is under floor heating Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. The menu uses local produce and is to a high standard. A packed lunch is provided each day to enable people to go on organised trips. Special diets are catered for. Our support staff are trained to deal with the requirements of people with a learning disability We try to create through discussion amongst the guests, a holiday which allows for independence and support when needed. Individuals and small groups are very welcome. Advice and reminders are part of our every day care and some personal care although a carer may come with arrangements with the management if extensive personal care is required. We are able to help our guests with medication, although we do ask for detailed instructions and labelling. A copy of the medication record is sent with you when you return home. Holidays are arranged through discussion amongst the guests. Staff are always available to give support and advice.
All Charges include the accommodation, the meals and the use of the people carrier trips. Visitors will need spending money for snacks, drinks, admission charges, post cards and souvenirs; we will advise accordingly on receipt of deposit. We are a non-smoking establishment although there is a designated area for smokers. Towels are provided, but not for swimming. We provide a basic laundry services to meet basic needs. All meals are provided from the first evening and a packed lunch is provided for the journey home if required.
Arrival is for after 3pm and departure is before 11am. The nearest train stations are Bodmin or Exeter , from which guests can be met. National Express coaches come to both Bude and Launceston, from which guests can be met. Most people come here by car; detailed instructions will be given to you. We advise that you have holiday insurance; again we can provide this at a charge
